Shop Associate

The Shop Associate assembles, tests, calibrates, and repairs complex valves and gauges to meet customer specifications and quality standards. This role also supports the Shop Foreman by helping coordinate daily shop activities, mentoring team members, maintaining a safe work environment, and improving production workflows. This role is based at Erdmann in Louisville, KY.

Essential Functions:

• Assemble complex valves to customer specifications using blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and other technical documents. Coordinate with the sales department to clarify order requirements.
• Calibrate precision instruments, including meters, gauges, and regulators.
• Inspect and test completed products for proper operation, performance, and conformance to quality standards. Diagnose defects and perform repairs on valves and mechanical control devices.
• Serve as a technical resource for coworkers by demonstrating assembly techniques and assisting with troubleshooting.
• Help maintain accurate inventories of tools, shop supplies, and raw materials. Document material usage, repairs, and test results.
• Inspect shop equipment and machinery for safe operation and report maintenance needs to the Shop Foreman.
• Communicate with the Shop Foreman, management, and other departments to support daily production schedules and deadlines.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Three to five years of related hands-on shop assembly experience.
• Strong knowledge of valve types and applications, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
• Strong attention to detail, diagnostic skills, and problem-solving ability.
• Basic computer proficiency for data entry, inventory tracking, and digital reporting.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or technical certification in manufacturing, mechanical technology, industrial engineering, or a related field.
• Five or more years of experience assembling valves and gauges or working in a closely related mechanical shop environment.
• Experience mentoring, training, or leading team members on a production floor.
• Advanced technical certification in hydraulics, pneumatics, or precision calibration.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibility for hiring, termination, or performance reviews. The Shop Associate may provide technical guidance and mentoring to other team members.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Work is performed primarily in a warehouse and shop environment, with time spent standing at a workstation and moving throughout the facility. The role may involve temporary exposure to loud noise or unfavorable odors. Some duties may require the use of office equipment and periods of sitting at a computer workstation.

The position requires standing, walking, talking, hearing, bending, squatting, moving throughout warehouse, office, shop, and customer locations, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. These demands are representative of those needed to perform the essential functions of the position.

Schedule and Travel:

This is a full-time position scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for 40 hours per week. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on business needs. Travel to customer sites or other office locations during working hours may be required; overnight travel is rarely expected.
